The Chills: Creepy Songs for Courageous Kids. CD. 49:46 min. Prod. by Brainy Tunes/Slow Reveal Music. 2009. $14.99.
K-Gr 5—This four-man band presents 12 mostly rock-style songs complete with creepy voices and sound effects. A children's chorus joins in on several of the pieces. Musicians perform expertly on guitars, lutes, piano, harpsichord, drums, and clarinet. A mad scientist invents a "Brat Machine" which turns charming children into brats. The subject of "The Long and Curious Saga of Dr. Trulaine" tries to make himself a friend from body parts he has scrounged from the cemetery. "Do the Monster" and "The Gruesome Groove" encourage listeners to get up and dance. Other songs feature ghosts, mummies, blobs, hauntings, and the boogerman (sic). This fun album will appeal to children who are always hunting for scary stories and will be a welcome enhancement for Halloween parties.—Beverly Bixler, San Antonio Public Library, TX
