Dr. Trulaine once was a small boy in Cleveland
A very smart lad
not at all bad
Every day, everybody would tease him
They'd point at his head
Here's what they said:
Bigger than a basketball
and shaped like a potato
Young Trulaine felt so much pain
and how he longed to show them the same
It was hard, hard, hard
I was so incredibly hard
For he had no friends and he never had had one
He spent every day all alone in his room
lonely and sad and increasingly mad
as slowly his good heart turned into a bad one
mad at the world, he was mad at himself
he was mad at each pitiful day he would spend
but each night in bed as he lay wide awake
he swore one day he would make
a friend
one friend
He would try, he would try, he would try, he would try
and succeed in the end
Years went by. Dr. Trulaine grew up, went to college, became a scientist. He wasn't really a mad scientist--more like a sad scientist. He was so embarassed about his great big head and all the mean things people would say to him, he just stayed inside in his laboratory, working on his weird inventions. Then one day he saw an ad for a movie and was… intrigued.
Dr. Trulaine went to Frankenstein movie
He said “I could do that! I could do that!”
That very day, he set out to prove he
he could do that, he could do that
Build a person piece by piece
like Tinkertoys or Lego
One of those and two of these
and how hard could it possibly be?
Dr. Trulaine went to the old cemetery
He snuck in at night, no one in sight
He dug in the rain, even for him it was scary
To dig up a body--pretty weird hobby
Build a person piece by piece
and make the friend he needed
Legs and arms and hands and feet
and how hard could it possibly be?
It was hard, it was hard
It was so incredibly hard...
He had all the right parts but it still wasn't working
He stitched and he sliced with his needles and knives
But he had to confess it was just a big mess
After 10,000 volts it was not even jerking
let alone walking, let alone talking
let alone terrorizing the town
It was just a big lump on the slab of his lab
and then Dr. Trulaine
broke down
and cried
He had tried he had tried he had tried he had tried
Well, at least he had tried
It was hard, it was hard
It was so incredibly hard...
Dr. Trulaine was ready to give up. He thought his life would always be sad and lonely. But he was about to learn that miracles really do happen. But only if we keep our eyes, and our ears, and our hearts -- especially our hearts -- wide open. ( It also helps to get out every once in awhile.)
Dr. Trulaine went to a Frankenstein movie
Nothing to do
except watch part two
Right in his way
somebody wearing a helmet
Terribly rude
Blocking his view
“Would you kindly take that off?
I'd like to see the movie.”
When she slowly turned around
Dr. Trulaine's jaw dropped to the ground
It was big, big big
it was so incredibly big
No it wasn't a helmet, it wasn't a helmet
It was the most remarkable head!
Taking up space with the prettiest face
smiling at him he could already tell it
was love it was love, it was luck, it was fate
It was finally his time, it was finally a friend
And then Dr. Trulaine and the friend that he made
walked out of the movie halfway through
And they sat in a graveyard under the light of the moon
Love!
