KNOW YOUR BONES

Know your bones, know your bones, know your bones!!!

If you're walking down the street, and you should chance to meet

a skeleton man who takes your hand and asks you what you know about him…

You don't want to be dim.

chorus

Starting with the skull, what do we call the part that keeps the brain in?

THE CRANIUM!

Say it again!

THE CRANIUM!

And what do we call the jaw, the wonderful thing that lets us talk and chew?

THE MANDIBLE!

Again?

THE MANDIBLE!

Commendible!  Remember that, too.

Now underneath the head, running all the way from the neck and down to the butt…

THE SPINE!

It's a powerful tower of bones that's flexible and yet, it holds us up!

THE SPINE!

But when we talk about the spine as individual bones, what do we say?

VERTEBRAE!

Would you repeat that for our listeners?

VERTEBRAE!

That's the way!

chorus

Up and down the spine, there are twenty-four wonderful ribs that wrap around.

THE RIBCAGE

Like a suit of armor, with your organs kept from harm, safe and sound.

THE RIBCAGE

At the bottom of the spine, there's a bone that’s large and wide called the pelvis

THE PELVIS!

It's the bone that makes your hips and it was made quite famous by Elvis.

THE PELVIS!

CHORUS

So what about the upper arm?  An amusing little bone is running through it.

HUMERUS!

Now that sounds like your funny bone.  But it isn't, so please don't misconstrue it!

HUMERUS!

In the lower arm,  a lovely pair of bones is working as a team.

RADIUS and ULNA

How they love to twist, from the elbow to the wrist.  You know the ones I mean.

RADIUS and ULNA

Mounted in the sockets of the pelvis are the bones of the thighs

FEMURS

The biggest bones you've got! Long and strong and such a splendid size!

FEMURS

And what do we call the knee-cap? The knee-cap--does anybody know?

PATELLA!

Now there’s a clever fella!

PATELLA!  PATELLA!

And what a bout the two bones of the calf, the lower leg below?

TIBIA and FIBULA

Jolly good show!

TIBIA and FIBULA

It’s impressive how very much you know!

chorus
