THE TEASING BIRD and Other Stories
A WINNER, 2006 PARENTS’ CHOICE FOUNDATION SILVER HONOR
“Parents’ Choice honors your amazing accomplishment”
“This charming CD, full of positive messages and lively tunes, addresses a variety of subjects: the solar system, animals, and life essentials such as cleaning your room and being a good friend. The title track, Teasing Bird, teaches children that teasing can be hurtful and has painful consequences. The Planets teaches the placement of the planets and a bit about the solar system in a pleasing beat that can be easily sung and remembered. Aliens Krinkledinks (pink) and Grodsnips (blue) teach us that just because we're different, doesn't mean we can't get along.
Parents and kids can come together on the wide range of sounds including high-tech, synthesized electronics, rocking reggae beats and pop. Some songs are upbeat and jazzy (Teasing Bird, Sandwich), while others are mellow, such as There Once Was A Bagel, a ballad about a bagel who learns to fly, "He flies through the air with the greatest of ease/ free from gravity/free from cream cheese." The bluesy Who You Are is a standout. A sense of playfulness and offbeat humor, in the songs and in the CD booklet, add to the fun.”
SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL -- Review Selection, June 2006
“Listeners will want to sing along with these 13 upbeat songs recorded by Ira Marlowe. Children will like the fun lyrics and catchy tunes while adults will appreciate the musical variety and occasional motivational themes. The kid-friendly subjects of the songs include kangaroos, flying bagels, teasing, and wishes for a genie. A few pieces are educational with facts about the planets, animals, or getting along with others, while others are just pure fun. Some tunes are quiet, with soothing lyrics that lend themselves to unwinding at bedtime. Musical styles vary from rock to reggae to folk and jazz with vocals by adults and children. All songs are supported by various instruments including keyboard, percussion, guitar, trumpet and clarinet. The result is a quality mixture of original songs that kids will want to hear over and over again.”

Love this children's CD, even though I'm an adult!

This children's CD has something for everyone, adults included! There are reggae, alternative rock, and good old fashioned tunes, too. I am usually driving around singing "Joanie and the Genie" long after dropping my 6 yr. old off. Her favorites are the "Sandwich" and "Kangaroo" song.
Fun music for children and parents too A+

This is a great childrens CD. Fun music and easy to sing along. My boys love the Moose and the Sandwich song. They request this CD every time we drive in the car and I hear them singing the songs when they play at home. It is great for parents too. Upbeat tunes you don't get tired off. I can't wait for the new CD that is coming out soon. A+
Great for kids and Mom will sing along too!

We love this CD! It's the first CD requested by my two daughters when we get in the car. Even though my 10 year old likes the pop music she has on her Ipod, this CD is her current favorite. These songs are fun and singable while providing some insight/lessons about life. Molly the Moose, Kangaroo and Joanie and the Genie are the big favorites. The musical style varies so it's not boring. I highly recommend this for kids up to the age of 11

Best CD of Kids' Music - Fun for Moms and Dads Too!
Reviewer: Holly Bishop
I have Teasing Bird and the follow-up to this CD, All the Colors, and love them both. I should mention that my daughter, who I purchased these CDs for, loves them too. She is three and tends to get stuck on one song that must be played over, and over, and over, and over... Despite the fact that I have now heard "Another Crazy Day" (track one on the All the Colors CD) about 100 times in the past week, I still love to hear it. Now THAT'S a testament to a good song and a great children's songwriter - a parent who doesn't get sick of the songs. I find myself playing the CDs in the car long after my daughter has been dropped off at daycare. Even my husband has become a big fan of Ira Marlowe. The songs run the gamut - quirky, meaningful, danceable, and, above all, fun. Although my daughter loves "Another Crazy Day," "The Teasing Bird," and "Molly the Moose," I am partial to "The Ballad of Pepe the Pinto" and "There Once was a Bagel." Fun, fun, Fun!!
Some absolute gems--for kids and adults

I actually saw Ira Marlowe perform in Oakland and thought his music was very clever. I bought "All the Colors" for my 5 year old and he (and I) love it--especially "What in the World is a Dinosaur Doing in Denver" and "Cockatoo Blues". Both are really good songs--great music and the lyrics are really quite funny. This guy's music should be on Sirius or XM's kid channels--he is that good.
Great!

This cd is fun and smart and not a huge turn-off to adults. my grandson and i love the "bean song." and the "old dog" and the "funky monkey." who wouldn't????
Too good for kids!

Someone gave us the Teasing Bird CD for Ruby's birthday and it quickly became her favorite. We couldn't wait for the new one to come out and it's just as good, maybe better. A few of these songs would probably make it on adult radio, but none of them are irritating or overly repetitive, like so much kids music. The song about the jumping bean is hilarious. Highly recommended!
